9/2/11 The Opposite of Coveting

Rejoice with those who rejoice, mourn with those who mourn. (Romans 12:15)
Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. (Philippians 2:4)

Thoughts: The opposite of coveting could be giving or caring for your neighbor. Coveting is looking for your own interests. Coveting is focusing on yourself, forgetting about the desperate needs of the world.

The larger catechism says: The sins forbidden in the Tenth Commandment are: discontentment with our own estate; envying, and grieving at the godo of our neighbor, together with all inordinate mortions and affections to anything that is his.

Prayer: Help me Lord, to desire you and my neighbor's good more than my own.
